L’Esprit du Mouvement

I produced these dance photographs in 1978, barely in my twenties.  My first exposure to dance performance was in art school when I came across the photography of Barbara Morgan.  Her black and white photographs of Martha Graham Dance CompanyLetter to the World became an indelible impression upon me.   During this period in 1978, I became obsessed with modern dance and became inspired by Vaslav Nijinsky, Igor Stravinsky, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, John Cage, and Black Mountain with the hopes of creating enduring photographs that captured the spirit of movement and the cadence of the modern dance performance. The black and white photographs from the L’Esprit du Mouvement Series are reproduced with high-quality archival inks on 16 x 20 Hahnemuhle William Turner, 310 GSM Textured 100% Cotton Substrate.
